I told someone on my team last week, "I don't pay you to bring me problems. I pay you to solve them."
They looked confused."But don't you want to know what's going on?"
No. I want to know what you did about it.
Here's the difference between someone who costs me money and someone who makes me money.
Cost: "Hey Mark, we've got an issue with the vendor. What should we do?"
Value: "The vendor screwed up. I handled it. Here's what I did and here's the backup plan if it happens again."
The most valuable people who actually move the needle solve problems before they become my problem.
They take ownership, they make decisions... and they own up/clean up their own mess if they're wrong.
Your job as the business owner isn't to have all the answers.
It's to build a team that doesn't need you to.
